ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

This month, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is placing conservation at the heart of its summer programming, as it celebrates World Nature Conservation Day on July 28.

Through hands-on weekend discovery activities and Our Green Journey, a new bilingual storytelling series created with Tadweer, visitors of all ages are invited to explore local ecosystems and deepen their connection with nature.

These experiences form part of the museum’s wider Summer of Discovery season, alongside wellness and family-friendly activities throughout the month.

The new Our Green Journey storytelling series, featuring environmental heroes and green adventures, is facilitated by Tadweer. Each session combines storytelling with interactive activities, inviting children to discover how technology, tradition, and teamwork protect the planet.

Noura the Smart Truck
On July 5, step into a storytelling and activity session featuring Noura the Smart Truck, an intelligent, electric truck that travels across the UAE using smart technology to identify and sort waste.

Through this engaging story and interactive activities, children discover how technology and waste-management innovation keep the UAE clean and green.

The Green Mission
On July 9, embark on a recycling adventure with Ghafan, Sidra and Rimal in this storytelling and activity session. Through these interactive activities, children learn how to separate waste and understand the importance of recycling, building a foundational environmental practice from an early age.

Zayed and the Green Pearl
On July 12, discover the inspiring journey of young Zayed in this storytelling and activity session, where children learn about UAE heritage, traditions, leadership and perseverance, connecting conservation to the founder’s legacy and the nation’s vision for a sustainable future.

Laila and the Little Bottle
On July 23, follow Laila on a magical adventure in which a mysterious bottle appears, inviting her to explore the 3Rs - reduce, reuse and recycle - showing how small everyday actions can make a meaningful environmental impact.

Running across weekends throughout July, these gallery-based games, nature observation activities and interactive discovery experiences deepen visitors’ observation skills and connection to local ecosystems.

Nature’s Families
In celebration of the Year of Family in the UAE, this two-stage discovery game, running every weekend in July in the Our World Today Gallery, invites families to explore the wildlife of the Emirates together.

Receive a character card featuring a real species from Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi’s collection, find the visitor holding your matching card from the same biological family, then explore the museum together to find all the family specimens on display.

With 53 species across 26 biological families, every visit tells a different story.

Zoom in / Zoom out
Take a closer look at nature through the eyes of a scientist. Explore the gallery by observing one small detail (zoom in) and connecting it to a bigger story (zoom out): how animals survive, what they eat, or where they live.

Decode how organisms communicate without words by interpreting colours, patterns and body features as signals for survival, whether warning, hiding, or attracting.

By connecting these tiny details to bigger survival stories, visitors discover nature as an interconnected whole worth protecting. Running every weekend in the Evolving World / Our World section.

Explorer’s Field Journal
Become a nature explorer and document discoveries like a scientist. Create a nature-inspired field journal with guided prompts connected to the galleries, using it to observe, record, and reflect on the natural world. Inspired by how scientists document discoveries, this weekend activity builds the foundation for conservation: you can’t protect what you don’t notice, and you can’t act without evidence.

Survive the Desert
Survival skills will be put to the test in this series of desert challenges, which include environmental obstacles such as extreme heat, lack of water, and predators, which require the most effective adaptations, from nocturnal behaviour and burrowing to fat storage.

In this challenge, visitors discover how physical and behavioural traits help animals thrive in desert ecosystems. Running every weekend in the Curiosity Corner.

Part of Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi’s ongoing Mindful Museum series, this programme brings together guided yoga and high-intensity wellness experiences set beneath the museum’s sauropods.

The sessions are facilitated by Form Studio and are open to ages 15+.

Micro Former Lagree
A ladies-only Micro Former session taking place beneath the dinosaurs at the museum. This high-intensity, low-impact workout strengthens the core and sharpens the mind. Running on July 6, 7 and 13.

A mixed evening Micro Former session will be held on July 28.

Yoga
A mixed, open yoga session will be held in the museum’s Atrium beneath the dinosaurs. This session offers a calming and grounding experience for all. Pause, reset, and reflect in a unique setting featuring 13.8 billion years of history.
