ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is dedicating June to Dino Month, a month-long celebration inspired by one of the museum’s most powerful stories: the Age of Dinosaurs and the extraordinary prehistoric life that once shaped our planet.

Offering a range of interactive workshops, family activities, science-led sessions and wellness experiences, the June programme invites visitors of all ages to explore dinosaurs not only as iconic creatures of the past, but as a gateway to understanding Earth’s history, evolution and the natural world.

The museum will host a series of dinosaur-themed experiences that bring prehistoric science to life, including Dinosaur Detectives: What Killed the Dinosaurs? Visitors become palaeontology detectives, examining evidence and investigating scientific theories surrounding the extinction of dinosaurs 66 million years ago.

Taking place in the Paleo Lab from June 26 to 30 at 11am, 2pm and 5pm, the workshop encourages participants to analyse clues and uncover one of Earth’s greatest mysteries.

Surviving the Darkness invites children to explore the catastrophic asteroid impact that caused ecosystems to collapse during the K-Pg mass extinction event. Through interactive challenges and scientific exploration, participants will discover how life on Earth adapted during a time of environmental crisis. Sessions will run from June 26 to 30 June at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm in the Evolving World Gallery.

In Survive Like a Dinosaur Card Game, participants will explore how dinosaur adaptations helped species survive different environmental challenges by matching adaptation cards with real-world survival scenarios. Designed to encourage discussion and evidence-based thinking, the activity will take place from June 5 to 30 at 11.30am, 1.30pm, 3.30pm and 5.30pm, introducing visitors to the science of adaptation and resilience through gameplay.

Visitors can also explore one of natural history’s most compelling evolutionary stories in Scales to Feathers, a workshop examining the direct link between dinosaurs and modern birds. Using the museum’s fossil collection, participants will compare Archaeopteryx and Pterosaur fossils side by side while exploring the transitional evidence that demonstrates birds are living dinosaurs. The experience takes place from June 26 to 30 at 10.30am, 1.30pm, 3.30pm and 5.30pm in the Evolving World Gallery.

In What’s in a Name? visitors will discover how scientists classify and name specimens, from dinosaur fossils to meteorites from space. Hosted in the Museum Gallery Corridor, the workshop explores how scientific naming systems help researchers understand and document the natural world. Sessions will take place from June 26 to 30 at 10.30am, 1.30pm, 3.30pm and 5.30pm.

Celebrating the UAE’s Year of the Family, Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi launched Nature’s Families: Bird Edition Game, a collaborative discovery experience designed for families to explore the birds of the Emirates together.

Held on weekends throughout June in the Our World Today Gallery, participants will receive character cards featuring bird species from the museum collection and work together to identify biological family connections throughout the museum. Sessions will run at 11am, 1pm, 3pm, 5pm and 7pm, with registration available at the ticketing desk.

As part of its growing wellness programming, the museum will host a series of mindful experiences throughout the month, inviting participants to reconnect with nature through mindfulness and movement.

The museum’s ongoing Nature and Mind series continues with a ladies-only guided yoga session on June 8 in the theatre and a guided yoga session on June 16 beneath the museum’s iconic sauropods in the Atrium.

Morning of Wellness on June 21 will celebrate International Yoga Day through guided yoga and sound meditation beneath the sauropods, while Under the Strawberry Moon: A Sound Healing Experience on June 29 will offer an immersive evening of sound healing and reflection inspired by Earth’s ancient rhythms and humanity’s enduring connection to the natural world.

Throughout June, younger visitors and families can participate in creative science and art workshops across the museum. Constellation Light Lab invites children to create their own constellation viewers using paper tubes and light while exploring the stories and science of the night sky, while Sun Printing allows participants to create photograms using sunlight and natural materials in a tactile workshop combining art, science and nature.

Visitors can also take part in Build a Mini Exhibit, where participants step into the role of curator by selecting specimen replicas and creating their own exhibition displays while learning about storytelling and classification in museums.

Museum opening hours are Monday to Thursday from 10am to 6.30pm, and Friday to Sunday from 10am to 8.30pm.
