 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

This April, the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi invites visitors of all ages to explore the wonders of our planet through Nature Month, a month-long programme of interactive workshops, family activities, engaging talks, and wellbeing experiences.

From celebrating Earth Day to hands-on learning for young explorers, the programme encourages curiosity, discovery, and environmental awareness.

Each week introduces a new theme, from ecosystems and biodiversity to sustainability and environmental responsibility. Visitors can take part in workshops, interactive installations, guided micro-tours, mindfulness sessions, and family-friendly activities, creating opportunities to learn, connect, and return throughout the month.

Wildlife Photography of the Year Exhibition
Running until June, the 61st Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition showcases a stunning collection of award-winning images capturing the beauty, diversity and fragility of the natural world.

Featuring photographs from one of the world's most prestigious nature photography competitions, the exhibition offers powerful visual storytelling that highlights extraordinary wildlife moments while raising awareness about conservation and environmental challenges.

Museum Moms
A new programme, starting on April 6, dedicated entirely to mothers and their little ones, the Museum Moms Club is a welcoming community programme, held in the Curiosity Corner, designed for mothers and children aged 0-5 to connect, learn and explore the museum together.

Through guided activities and family-friendly experiences, the club offers opportunities to engage with science, culture, and the natural world while fostering curiosity in young children and building a supportive community for parents. Activities include: Stretch Like a Dinosaur, where little ones move and play while learning about prehistoric creatures; Sun Printing, a creative activity that introduces children to natural patterns and sunlight; and Flora Magic, an interactive exploration of plants and natural textures.

Earth Day
Earth Day on April 22 is the highlight of Nature Month, turning the museum into a full-sensory celebration of our planet. Visitors of all ages are invited to explore, connect and take action for the Earth.

Through live science demonstrations, hands-on workshops and interactive installations, guests embark on a journey from discovery to connection to action. Meet real specimens, explore biodiversity, and join sustainability activities that show the importance of ecosystems and caring for the environment.

Visitors can also take part in the Earth Wishes Tree and Collection Word Wall, sharing reflections and pledges that create a sense of shared responsibility. Pre-booking is advisable.

Café Scientifique
Café Scientifique is a monthly public talk series, starting on April 21, where museum curators and experts share insights into the fascinating concepts, discoveries, and research presented in the museum. In an informal café-style setting in the Theatre, visitors are invited to engage directly with specialists, explore scientific ideas behind the exhibitions, and participate in open discussions that make science accessible, relevant, and inspiring for all.

Nature & Mind
Reconnect with yourself and the natural world through a series of mindfulness, yoga, and sound healing experiences. Throughout April, morning and evening yoga and mindfulness sessions invite visitors to slow down, explore natural cycles, and find balance and relaxation within the museum setting.

On April 30, the Under the Pink Moon sound healing experience offers a signature evening of meditation and immersive sound, aligned with the full moon. Both experiences provide moments of reflection, wellbeing, and connection.

Family Weekends
Explore, create and discover with a series of fun, hands-on activities for children and families. Follow clues and uncover hidden details in the Nature Scavenger Hunt, create your own feeder in Build a Bird Feeder using natural and recycled materials, or get creative with Earth-Themed Cupcake Decorating inspired by the planet.

City Nature Challenge
Experience the City Nature Challenge on April 24-27 through a mix of science and storytelling. Light Trapping invites visitors to observe nocturnal insects using real scientific techniques, exploring biodiversity and contributing to citizen science.

Alongside this, Community Storytelling brings Emirati elders to share personal experiences of the desert and the sea, creating an intergenerational dialogue that connects cultural heritage with environmental awareness. Together, these activations offer a unique blend of discovery, learning, and community connection.

After-school Workshops
The Term 3 Afterschool Workshops bring science to life for children across multiple age groups (0-5; 6-11; 12-15). Through hands-on activities and playful exploration, participants can take on roles in a Food Web Live Challenge, craft their own marine creatures in Wire Fish – UAE Marine Life, discover how animals blend into their surroundings in the Camouflage Challenge, match environmental challenges with animal adaptations in Survive the Desert, or explore nature through touch in Nature Textures: Mystery Touch Match.

These activities encourage critical thinking, creativity, and a deeper understanding of biodiversity and ecosystems.

Story Hour
Daily story sessions in the Curiosity Corner invite families to pause together and listen to tales that connect nature, the night sky, and values such as patience and gratitude, in both Arabic and English.

Flora Magic
An interactive introduction to flora and natural textures, where children explore native and introduced plants in the UAE and learn how roots, leaves, and bark adapt to desert life, building early scientific thinking through touch and observation. A daily attraction in the Curiosity Corner.

Fossil Lab
Young explorers can step into the world of palaeontology, learning about the UAE 66 million years ago during the age of dinosaurs. Visitors discover marine fossils from when the UAE was underwater and take part in a hands-on marine fossil creation activity. Open daily in the Curiosity Corner.
