Witness a fusion of technology and calligraphy, brought together through genre-defying contemporary dance in this groundbreaking performance, “Ink - Huang Yi Studio +!” at NYUAD’s The Arts Center on Thursday, February 5, at 7.30pm.

Presented with the support of Dance Reflections by Van Cleef & Arpels, the original production by Huang Yi Studio+ features inventor and choreographer Huang Yi and audiovisual pioneer Ryoichi Kurokawa, exploring the connection between body, sound, visual elements and space.

Drawing from renowned calligrapher Tong Yang-Tze’s “Silent Music” series, dancers become brushes that paint and leave marks on stage through mesmerising movement. Kurokawa transforms inkblots into luminous tracks via stunning holographic projection, creating a continuous flow of paintings.

Huang delves into his cultural roots and reveals a wild movement language, turning dancers’ bodies into brushes that paint and leave marks on stage.

Combining Huang’s explosive and precise language and Kurokawa’s meticulous and sophisticated artistry, “Ink” is a work that transcends borders and fuses analogue and digital, reflecting the harmonic tension between the realms of ancient practice and future design.

The trailblazer Huang Yi was last seen in Abu Dhabi in The Arts Center’s inaugural season in his acclaimed work with an industrial robot, “HUANG YI & KUKA”.

Ink is an original production by Huang Yi Studio +, co-commissioned by the National Taichung Theatre and National Theatre, Taipei in Taiwan, and had its world premiere in June 2023.
