The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre organised twelve gatherings during 2025 as part of the Liwan Al Jami initiative, one of the key community initiatives implemented under its Jusoor community programme.

The initiative aligns with the objectives of the Year of Community, aimed at strengthening social cohesion, and coincides with the Year of the Family, reflecting the UAE’s approach to fostering family and community bonds.

The Liwan Al Jami initiative focuses on senior citizens and youth, and aims to facilitate access for groups requiring support to attend Friday prayers at mosques.

Nearly 200 participants took part in the initiative, including 96 senior citizens and 91 youth.

The initiative seeks to open channels of engagement with various segments of society, enabling targeted groups to access the Mosque, participate in its programmes and activities, and visit its facilities within a comfortable environment supported by integrated services and dedicated care that meet their needs and provide reassurance, encouraging active community participation.

Set to continue throughout the coming year, the initiative aims to deliver a comprehensive experience in a safe and accommodating environment, offering tailored services that consider participants’ needs.

It also provides opportunities for religious education by introducing mosque etiquette and enhancing religious knowledge, while supporting participants’ psychological and emotional well-being.

In addition, the initiative contributes to their regular participation in community events, particularly those organised or supported by the centre.

Director General of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Centre, His Excellency Dr. Yousef Al Obaidli, commented on the initiative, “The Centre’s community initiatives reflect its role in supporting the visions and aspirations of the wise leadership, and embody its commitment to social responsibility towards all segments of society. He added that this commitment is evident through the Centre’s purposeful programmes, activities and events, which aim to engage all members of the community in building a cohesive and understanding society that fulfils the aspirations of the nation and its leadership, and reflects the authentic Emirati values deeply rooted among its people.”

The initiative is implemented in cooperation with several local entities, including the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat, the Family Development Foundation, the Family Care Authority, the Rabdan Volunteer Team, and Amanat Care Healthcare Centre.

The programme included welcoming guests in accordance with Emirati hospitality traditions, providing dedicated facilities for ablution and prayer, and organising religious and cultural lectures delivered by a number of preachers.

Participants were also given the opportunity to visit the Light and Peace Museum, attend the Friday sermon and prayer, and visit the mausoleum of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may his soul rest in peace, where they offered prayers for mercy and forgiveness.

The visits also included cultural tours across the mosque led by cultural tour specialists, during which participants learned about the history of the mosque’s establishment and its civilisational message promoting coexistence, tolerance and openness to others, inspired by the legacy and values of the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

A dedicated team of centre staff accompanied the guests throughout their visit, with dedicated transportation provided to and from their places of residence to ensure comfort and enrich their overall experience.

The visits concluded with commemorative photographs at the main entrance and the distribution of symbolic gifts.
