Hot air balloon excursions drifting over the golden dunes of Liwa have given a new lift to this year's Liwa International Festival, further boosting its appeal among both domestic and foreign tourists.
Commenced on December 12 and running until January 3, 2026, the ongoing 23-day festival features culture, adventure, motorsports, music, and family fun against the backdrop of the 300-metre Tal Moreeb, the UAE's tallest dune.
Fahd Faisal bin Makhashen, who is organising hot air balloon excursions at the festival for a third consecutive year, said the activity has become one of Liwa festival's most sought-after attractions as it combines adventure with breathtaking panoramic views that showcase the desert's natural beauty from a unique and unforgettable perspective.
Bin Makhashen emphasised that safety remains a top priority. He explained that flights depend on specific weather conditions and are suspended when conditions are unfavourable due to shifting wind patterns. He stressed that safety protocols were implemented to the highest standards.
He added that guests receive comprehensive instructions and a briefing from qualified crew before take-off, ensuring their comfort and overall enjoyment of the experience.
He noted that visitors' comments have been overwhelmingly favourable, with many expressing their delight and eagerness to repeat the journey.
"We always strive to stay at the forefront, and we are working hard to make the hot air balloon experience in Liwa truly memorable for our guests."
