AMEINAH ALZEYOUDI (ABU DHABI)

Al Dhafra Fort, a cultural landmark that serves as the gateway to Abu Dhabi's Al Dhafra Region, is hosting a variety of cultural activities that reflect the authentic Emirati heritage in celebration of Ramadan on March 11-12.

Built in 2017, the fort pays homage to the tribes that once defended this region. Its design reflects the historical architectural style in an effort to preserve it for future generations.

The historical venue offers visitors the chance to experience local Ramadan traditions and enjoy a communal iftar surrounded by cultural landmarks.

Visitors can also explore a heritage market, in addition to dedicated spaces for families and children, which feature handicraft  and pottery making workshops, among others.

Additionally, there will be a Q&A session on the Al Dhafra Fort stage, where visitors can engage and interact with the speakers.

Khalfan Al Mazrouei, Programming & Public Engagement senior specialist Culture Sites Management, stated that the event is organised in collaboration with several local entities to ensure an authentic experience and a comprehensive offering for visitors.

"These include health, cultural, and youth councils, as well as artisans specialising in traditional handicrafts. Traditional Emirati products, such as oud, incense, and Ramadan spices, will also be showcased in local stores. Additionally, volunteers from the local community have collaborated with the Emirates Red Crescent to enrich the experience and promote community spirit."
