The inaugural Al Ain Dates Festival, running until January 8, is being organised by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority and honours the UAE's rich palm tree heritage. The sweet spectacle features seven date competitions showcasing varieties such as Al Ain Elite, Khalas and Fard, and offers 70 prizes worth Dh1.756 million.

A celebration of Al Ain's cultural and agricultural legacy, the festival offers a vibrant display of Emirati traditions.

Al Foah, part of the Agthia Group and recognised as the world's largest date processor, has reached a key milestone in advancing innovation in the UAE's date palm sector.

The company, which produces over 160,000 tonnes of dates annually, has significantly expanded its processing capacity and global presence, selling its products in multiple countries.

Mohammed Ghanim Al Mansoori, Deputy CEO of Al Foah, spoke to Aletihad about the company's participation, stating: "Al Foah is an integral part of the date festivals. We support over 25,000 farmers across the UAE, producing dates available in more than 53 countries. This festival provides a great platform to showcase our products and connect with farmers and consumers alike."

Through its brands like Date Crown and Zadina, Al Foah has consolidated the UAE's date industry as a leading player on the global stage, gaining recognition in diverse markets such as China and Brazil, and further solidifying its international presence.

Al Mansoori said: "Our participation is crucial. As you know, the manufacturer and the shopper must come together in one place to showcase their products. The festival has attracted visitors from around the world, including from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries."

He spoke of the appeal of the Al Ain Dates Festival, set against the backdrop of the oasis of Al Ain at Al Hili Oasis, where palm trees and green spaces create a tranquil atmosphere.

Al Mansoori said that the festival highlights the work of local farmers, focusing not just on selling products, but on sharing the pride and joy of seeing people enjoy their produce.

Discussing the festival’s appeal, he added: "International participation allows us to connect with people through our products. Just as ambassadors represent their countries, we represent the UAE through our dates. The Emirati product is recognised worldwide, and our different types of dates have become a cultural symbol."
