As the UAE celebrates its 53rd National Day, Umm Al Emarat Park is hosting a series of vibrant events that not only commemorate the country's rich heritage but also highlight its commitment to sustainability and community engagement.
From November 29 to December 2, the park is transformed into a hub of captivating cultural performances by Emirati folk groups, the Abu Dhabi Police military band and cavalry, and the Royal Asayel group.
Visitors of all ages are also offered a wide range of interactive experiences to celebrate the day.
In an interview with Aletihad, Rasha Kablawi, the official spokesperson for Umm Al Emarat Park, explained how its vibrant programme reflects the ethos of sustainability and collaborative action, defining the 53rd UAE Eid Al Etihad.
A Fusion of Culture, Innovation, and Sustainability
Visitors to Umm Al Emarat Park during the National Day celebrations can experience traditional Emirati arts such as henna painting, traditional crafts, and poetry sessions at the Podcast and Heritage Corner, while the Future Vision Corner will hold exhibitions on innovation and sustainable projects, offering a glimpse into the UAE's bright future.
"Our Stage Corner will also feature dynamic seaside-themed performances and competitions, complemented by engaging highlights like the 'Story of the Nation' mural, daily falcon shows, and Harbiya group performances. This National Day, we invite everyone to join us in celebrating the spirit of the UAE with unforgettable experiences for all ages," said Kablawi.
A Hub for the Community
Umm Al Emarat Park has long been a cornerstone of community life in Abu Dhabi, welcoming over 700,000 visitors annually, according to Kablawi.
Since its opening in 1982, Umm Al Emarat Park has hosted more than 250 events, ranging from cultural exhibitions to family-friendly activities.
"The park is guided by a vision that invites visitors to explore, enrich their lives, get educated and enjoy meaningful experiences. With eco-friendly initiatives and diverse attractions and locations, the park encourages wellness and community engagement while offering scenic nature valleys," Kablawi said.
The park honours the UAE's Founding Father, His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and his vision to preserve the country's cultural and natural history, she added.
The park is also named after Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation (FDF).
"National Day is a celebration that aligns greatly with our values and mission at the park, bringing community members together to celebrate the spirit of union and the heritage of the UAE," Kablawi said.
Leading the Charge in Sustainability
Umm Al Emarat Park has taken significant strides in environmental conservation over the years. The park has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag certification, a global standard for excellence in environmental management and community involvement.
In an effort to preserve the park's heritage and history during its redevelopment phase, over 200 mature trees, some over 20 years old, were recovered and replanted in their original locations, alongside 150,000 shrubs and 1,200 trees, explained Kablawi.
"Our innovative, environment-friendly irrigation system reclaims grey water, reducing overall water consumption by up to 40%," she said. "The Park also produces its own compost from recycled green waste, fostering a circular approach to sustainability and minimising waste."
"These initiatives collectively emphasise our commitment to collaborative action, integrating community, heritage, and innovation to create a sustainable future. By leading in conservation and green practices, Umm Al Emarat Park aligns seamlessly with the UAE's vision for sustainability and its National Day theme."
