ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

As part of TRENDS Research & Advisory's scientific and cultural programme for the 43rd edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair, TRENDS experts and researchers signed three new publications at the book signing corner. This reflects TRENDS' vision and strategy to support and empower young researchers.

The new publications include Applying Training and Simulation Models in Cybersecurity, by Dr. Mohamed Al-Kuwaiti, Chairman of the UAE Cyber Security Council; United in Trade: Lessons on the Power and Politics of Economic Blocs, by Mouza Almarzooqi, Researcher and Head of Economic Studies Section at TRENDS, and Dr. Mohamed Afifi, economic expert at TRENDS; and Mastering Cybersecurity: Stay Safe Online: Guide and Tales, by Shamma Mohamed Al-Kuwaiti.

Strengthening Cybersecurity

The signing events began with H.E. Dr. Mohamed Al-Kuwaiti, Chairman of the UAE Cyber Security Council, signing his book, Applying Training and Simulation Models in Cybersecurity. Published in English by TRENDS, this book focuses on the role of training and simulation in enhancing cybersecurity, presenting pioneering models in this field from countries such as the United States, Estonia, and the UAE.

The UAE as a Model

In his book, Dr. Al-Kuwaiti highlights how the UAE has become a global leader and a pioneering model in the field of cybersecurity according to the 2024 Global Cybersecurity Index, a comprehensive measure issued by the International Telecommunication Union and evaluates the cybersecurity maturity in 194 countries across the world.

The book attributes this outstanding achievement to the UAE's visionary leadership and well-designed digital transformation policies. In recognition of its efforts to bolster cybersecurity measures, the first GISEC Global Cyber Drill, designed to enhance global cybersecurity resilience, was hosted by the UAE Cyber Security Council.

United in Trade

Mouza Almarzooqi, Researcher and Head of Economic Studies Section at TRENDS, and Dr. Mohamed Afifi, economic expert at TRENDS, signed their book, United in Trade: Lessons on the Power and Politics of Economic Blocs. Published in English, this book analyses the current realities and trends of economic blocs and global transformations in the post-globalisation era, highlighting the strength of economic blocs and their policies. It asks whether these blocs facilitate trade or serve merely as political unions, drawing on experiences from Europe and Africa.

The book explores the impact of technology on accelerating structural transformation in Africa, including advancements in payment systems and bilateral currency trade. It underscores the importance of economic blocs in strengthening connections across continents and regions, highlighting the ongoing need to support global trade relations, essential for achieving shared prosperity in an interconnected world.

Mastering Cybersecurity

Shamma Mohamed Al-Kuwaiti launched her book, Mastering Cybersecurity: Stay Safe Online: Guide and Tales. Published in English by TRENDS, this book offers practical tips, from creating strong passwords and spotting scams to protecting privacy and staying safe on social media.

It shares real-life stories and gives straightforward strategies that can be used immediately to protect against digital hacks and scams. It also enlists tales and anecdotes to humanize discourse and make it relatable.
