RAIED SHUQUM (ABU DHABI)

The Authentic Flamenco troupe to set Abu Dhabi ablaze at the Cultural Foundation on November 1 and 2, featuring a blend of powerful vocals, intricate guitar work, and passionate dance, all hallmarks of traditional flamenco.

The event is produced in collaboration with Solana and Fever, ensuring a high-quality production that meets the standards of the Royal Opera of Madrid. The partnership with these organisations highlights the global appeal and cultural significance of flamenco, bridging the gap between traditional Spanish art and international audiences.

Flamenco is a passionate and expressive art form that originated in the Andalusian region of Spain. It combines singing (cante), guitar playing (toque), dance (baile), and rhythmic hand clapping (palmas).

Flamenco has evolved over centuries, becoming a symbol of Spanish culture and gaining recognition worldwide, including being declared an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. Its roots are believed to be a fusion of the various musical traditions that came from the cultures that coexisted in Andalusia.

The troupe is a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Spain, brought to life by the Royal Opera of Madrid, one of the most prestigious performing arts institutions in the world. The Royal Opera of Madrid has been a beacon of excellence in the performing arts since its inception in 1850. In 2019, it was awarded the title of the best opera company in the world by the International Opera Awards, a testament to its outstanding contributions to the arts.

Headlined by renowned guitarist Daniel Casares, the performances will take place in the outdoor amphitheatre, offering an immersive experience under the stars.

Casares, a virtuoso guitarist from Malaga, is celebrated for his technical prowess and emotional depth, having won numerous awards throughout his career. At the age of 16, he became the youngest guitarist to win the prestigious Bordón Minero de La Unión. His career has since flourished, with notable projects such as "La luna de Alejandra" with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Malaga and his sixth album "Picassares", which pays tribute to the painter Pablo Picasso.

Joining Casares on stage will be flamenco dancer Manu Montes, whose dynamic performances have captivated audiences worldwide. He began his training at the age of five in Córdoba. He completed his professional studies in both Córdoba and Madrid and has performed with the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía. Montes has worked with prominent figures in flamenco, such as Farruquito and Antonio Canales, and has participated in major flamenco festivals, solidifying his reputation in contemporary flamenco dance.

Montes' dancing is characterised by its intensity and expressiveness, perfectly complementing Casares' guitar. Together, they create a mesmerising synergy that brings the essence of flamenco to life.

The troupe’s other key members include Julián Bedmar, another skilled flamenco guitarist known for his expertise and contributions to various flamenco ensembles. Manuel Peralta, a powerful flamenco vocalist who has performed with many notable artists, adding emotional depth to the troupe's performances. José Manuel Posada, a versatile bassist with a background in classical and electric bass, known for blending different musical styles into flamenco. Miguel Ortiz, a skilled percussionist from Marbella, Málaga, who has worked with various national and international dance companies.

These artists, each with their unique talents and backgrounds, come together to create the captivating performances that define Authentic Flamenco. Their dedication to preserving and evolving flamenco ensures that this traditional art form continues to enchant audiences worldwide.

Each element of the show is methodically crafted to showcase the beauty and complexity of flamenco. From the intricate guitar solos to the powerful dance routines, every aspect of the performance will evoke a deep emotional response.
