ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

Rock legends Scorpions are set to electrify Abu Dhabi with a concert that promises to be a highlight of the year for rock enthusiasts, resonating with the chords of nostalgia and the beats of enduring rock anthems. The iconic German band will perform at the Etihad Arena on Yas Island, bringing their timeless hits and new material to an audience eager for live music.

On May 17, the Scorpions will celebrate the 40th anniversary of their classic album “Love at First Sting” as part of their world tour. This album, released in 1984, is not just a collection of songs but a cultural touchstone that has shaped the soundtrack of a generation.

Their music, a blend of heavy metal and hard rock with a dash of glam, has captivated hearts worldwide.

The Scorpions, hailing from Hanover, Germany, have etched their name into the annals of rock music with a career spanning over half a century. Formed in 1965 by guitarist Rudolf Schenker, the band’s lineup solidified in the late ‘70s with Klaus Meine on vocals, Matthias Jabs on lead guitar, Francis Buchholz on bass, and Herman Rarebell on drums, marking their most successful era.

Their early sound, characterised by hard rock, evolved with Uli Jon Roth’s tenure in the band. However, it was after Roth’s departure and the arrival of Jabs in 1978 that the Scorpions truly found their signature style: a blend of melodic heavy metal and lyrical power ballads. This transformation was evident in their 1979 breakthrough album “Lovedrive”, which set the stage for their global success.

The ‘80s saw the Scorpions ascend to rock royalty with a string of platinum albums, including “Animal Magnetism” (1980), “Blackout” (1982), and the iconic “Love at First Sting” (1984). The latter featured hits like “Rock You Like A Hurricane” and “Still Loving You”, propelling them to international stardom.

The Scorpions’ influence extended beyond music, with “Wind of Change” becoming an anthem for the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War. Despite shifts in the music industry and changes in their lineup, with Paweł Mąciwoda and Mikkey Dee joining in the 2000s, the Scorpions have remained a formidable force in rock music.

With over 100 million records sold worldwide, the Scorpions continue to tour and produce new music, celebrating their rich legacy while still captivating audiences with their enduring sound. Their journey is a testament to the power of rock and the timeless appeal of their music.

Fans can look forward to a setlist that includes classics from the band’s extensive catalogue, as well as tracks from their latest releases. The Scorpions are known for their dynamic stage presence and engaging performances, making this concert a must-see event.
