TALAH TURK (ABU DHABI)

Tucked away on the first floor of the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi lies a hidden verdant oasis teeming with the rich tapestry of native plants that thrive amidst the arid landscape of the UAE. This captivating exhibition, titled “Native: Plants in the UAE,” offers visitors an immersive experience that feels like a journey into the heart of nature itself.

Walking through the exhibition feels like stepping into a vibrant classroom where science lessons come to life. Each plant on display serves as a lesson, offering insights into its unique adaptation, resilience, and survival strategies. From the one-and-only ghaf tree to the resilient grasses of the Emirati desert, every plant embodies the beauty and complexity of the UAE’s indigenous flora.

Curated by Sumayyah Al Suwaidi, with the assistance of Aisha Al Aseeri and Huda Marzoog, “Native” brings together the works of 19 talented artists. Through a blend of artistry and education, these artists aim to raise awareness about the ecological significance of indigenous plants and trees.

Their collective efforts highlight the vital role these botanical wonders play in sustaining the UAE’s natural ecosystem.

Among the participating artists are names like Mattia Gambardella, Reem Al Hashmi, Saoud AI Dhaheri, Maitha Al Omaira, Reem Al Mubarak, Mahra Al Falahi, Alia Jalabi, Maryam Al Shamsi, Turfah Al Tamimi, Boubaker Boukhari, Jassem AI Ali, Mana Al Marbooei, Mohamed Al Jaberi, Musaab Al Messabi, Salem Alsawafi, Claudia Steuber, Edgar Camats, Hasan Al Hosani, and Abdulla Makki.

Each artist brings their unique perspective to the exhibition through paintings, drawings sculptures, and multimedia installations. They celebrate the beauty of native flora while emphasising the need to appreciate and preserve these natural habitats for future generations.

“Native”, which opened its doors on February 22, invites visitors to embark on a journey of discovery that extends until September 1. The exhibition serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of coexisting harmoniously with nature and cherishing the botanical treasures that enrich our world.
