Abu Dhabi’s Maritime Heritage Festival returns for its third edition on Friday, once again poised to captivate audiences with the rich tapestry of traditional coastal life in the UAE at A’l Bahar on the Abu Dhabi Corniche.

The festival promises visitors of all ages an immersive experience allowing them to step into a historic shoreline community and explore a myriad of cultural delights with engaging activities, from crafts and markets to traditional games, storytelling sessions, performances, boat tours, and traditional cuisine.

During a press tour on Thursday, Randa Bin Haidar, Director of Culture Festivals and Platforms at the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT), noted that the festival is dedicated to showcasing local talent and celebrating traditional coastal culture through curated exhibitions, interactive experiences, and dynamic performances.

Each edition of the festival is carefully crafted to tell a distinct story. This year weaves together narratives of craftsmanship, trade routes, and cultural exchange. From music to textiles, every aspect of Abu Dhabi’s maritime heritage is brought to life, offering a glimpse into a bygone era while celebrating the enduring spirit of creativity and resilience.

At its core, the Maritime Heritage Festival serves as a testament to Abu Dhabi’s commitment to nurturing its creative and cultural industries. By providing a platform for artists, artisans, and performers, the festival not only celebrates the region’s rich heritage, but also fosters economic growth and community engagement, Bin Haidar noted.

The 10-day festival, which lasts from February 23 until March 3, invites visitors from around the world to embark on a journey of discovery and celebration along the shores of Abu Dhabi.

Its programme includes a Fishing Village, a Fishermen’s Market, a Trading Village, a Bazaar Spice Souk, an Artisans Village, a Pearling Dhow, a Promenade with diverse food and beverage vendors, and much more.

Immersive performances, including dance, music, and audio-visual experiences, will take place every evening. This year’s focus will be Al-Nahma, the traditional sea chant used across the region. Every day, school students will also compete in the Traditional Games Tournament.

Tickets can be purchased at the prices of Dh30 for adults and Dh15 for children aged 5 to 12, while children under 5 years old enjoy complimentary admission. The festival is open from 4pm to 11pm Sunday through Thursday, and from 4pm to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

More information can be found on the festival’s official website.
