With humble beginnings and a deep connection to his culture, Hamdan’s journey from a scientist and engineer to a superhero is one of passion, adventure, and destiny.
The creative minds behind Abu Dhabi’s upcoming superhero, “Hamdan” offered a sneak peek into the world of the “Master of Sand & Sea” at the Middle East Film and Comic Con (MEFCC) held in Abu Dhabi.
Hamdan: The Backstory
With humble beginnings and a deep connection to his culture, Hamdan’s journey from a scientist and engineer to a superhero is one of passion, adventure, and destiny.
From his groundbreaking contributions to sustainable technologies to his love for falconry, Hamdan’s life takes a transformative turn when he discovers an ancient artefact, granting him extraordinary powers over sand and sea.
With “enhanced physical prowess, intellect, and an even deeper technological acumen than any man on Earth,” Hamdan quickly realises the responsibility he holds. To prepare for his new role, he crafts a cutting-edge kandoora, complete with advanced gadgets and armour, and employs a robotic falcon drone as his reliable assistant.
Embracing his newfound abilities, he becomes the city’s guardian and a role model for the youth, ready to protect his people and culture whenever needed.
Speaking to Aletihad, Head of Design on the project, Ahmed Ragaie, highlighted Hamdan’s commitment to using his powers for good, defending Abu Dhabi against the “real” villains, which are environmental hazards such as pollution.
Launch and Team
Hamdan, set to officially launch in December 2024, is the brainchild of the Creative and Production team of Experience Abu Dhabi, supported by Sandstorm. The team comprises Senior Illustrator, Michael Turdal Graphic Designer, Prageeth Malaka; Head of Design, Ahmed Ragaie; and Head of Editing, Steven Bond.
The team is excited about Hamdan’s official launch later this year, and is encouraging the public to keep an eye out for Hamdan at next year’s edition of MEFCC.
Michael Turda told Aletihad that Hamdan’s journey will be chronicled in a series of comic books, the first of which will come out towards the end of the year, featuring 48 pages.
“Honestly, this was just a dream in the past but it’s finally coming true. We hope that Hamdan will inspire the younger generation to have their own dreams and chase them like us,” Turda said.
He voiced his team’s desire for the “heart and soul” of the city to become a permanent project, promoting the cultural richness and values of Abu Dhabi and the UAE.
