MUDHY ALOBTHANI (ABU DHABI)

Young Emirati innovators have developed five artificial intelligence (AI) agents designed to address operational challenges in the energy sector during a hackathon held at ADNEC in Abu Dhabi as part of ADIPEC 2026.

Organised by the Abu Dhabi Youth Council and ADNOC Youth Council, in collaboration with UAi and Shabab AI, the AI Agents in Energy Hackathon brought together young participants to develop practical solutions to challenges faced by employees in the field.

Participants were tasked with addressing three operational challenges, using AI and vibe coding to build autonomous agents aimed at improving access to information, reducing time spent on routine tasks and supporting better decision-making.

Fatima Al Suwaidi, a member of the Abu Dhabi Youth Council and one of the event’s lead organisers, said the initiative aimed to encourage young people to move beyond using AI tools and take an active role in developing them.

“In line with the UAE government’s direction to embrace Agentic AI, we organised the AI Agents in Energy Hackathon in collaboration with the ADNOC Youth Council. We challenged young people to address three real challenges faced by field employees. Using vibe coding, they developed five AI agents to help employees save time, access information and make better decisions,” she said.

“The winning solutions will be adopted, and the teams behind them will be recognised. Our ambition is for the UAE’s youth to go beyond learning about AI and become its creators.”

One of the projects presented was Mubader, developed by Saif Al Falasi and Sarah Ibrahim. The AI-powered platform integrates operational data and generates alerts to help management access reports and identify issues across the organisation.

Al Falasi said the project was developed in response to challenges associated with the volume of operational reports, alerts and field-failure information. “The platform aims to reduce costs, save time and improve visibility by making information accessible across the company,” he said.

Ibrahim also highlighted the importance of developing solutions that respond to the needs of employees working on the ground, demonstrating how young innovators can use technology to address practical workplace challenges.

The hackathon also highlighted the importance of responsible AI development and equipping young people with the knowledge to use emerging technologies effectively.

Jamila Wajeh, Research and Ethics Lead at UAi, an Emirati-led company, said the organisation works to make AI more accessible to young people while promoting awareness of the responsibilities associated with its use.

“UAi hosts AI workshops and sessions, with the goal of developing AI capabilities among young people. Our mission began seven months ago, when our founder, Amal Al Minhali, brought together a team of four to simplify AI and help people develop a deeper understanding of the technology and their responsibility towards it,” she said.
