The Parliamentary Division of the Federal National Council (FNC), represented by Marwan Obaid Al Muhairi and Mira Sultan Al Suwaidi, took part in the Parliamentary Meeting held alongside COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, from November 16-17.
During the session on enhancing climate resilience, Al Muhairi highlighted the UAE’s practical approach to climate policies, showcased during its hosting of COP28.
She emphasised the role of parliamentarians in legislative support, oversight, and community engagement to bolster local adaptation strategies.
Speaking on increasing ambitions for climate mitigation, Al Suwaidi underscored the importance of setting clear targets for methane reduction and energy transition.
She referenced the UAE’s clean energy projects, like Masdar and Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, as examples of climate technology leadership.
The discussions also covered leveraging technology to combat climate change, focusing on equitable access to innovations.
The UAE’s efforts in this area include partnerships with Pacific and African nations and a commitment to climate finance.
These contributions reflect the UAE’s commitment to advancing global climate action through collaborative parliamentary efforts.
