This year's ADIPEC conference in Abu Dhabi is the first to focus on the emerging AI solutions disrupting the energy sector.

"With the introduction of AI, things are going to be done a lot more efficiently. AI is going to transform the industry with time, and the result is lower cost for every section," Dr. Iman Nasseri, Managing Director Middle East FGE Dubai, told Aletihad on Tuesday.

Primarily focused on downstream oil and natural gas liquids, Dr. Nasseri is responsible for Middle East oil research and his company FGE is consistently working on implementing the latest solutions.

He said solutions, including the creation of the digital twins that allow for the simulation of various scenarios like surges in energy demand and supply, have the potential to radically improve the efficiency of the energy sector.

On Tuesday at ADNEC, a number of these solutions were on display from companies such as AIQ, a joint venture between ADNOC and G42, which showed how entire grids could be simulated, and the solutions could be suggested.

Dr. Nasseri explained that this was a new frontier where technology was moving away from being a passive participant in the planning process to one that was more proactive and could therefore help suggest possible solutions.

"What we are seeing is AI take on a new role, and these solutions will change the way people work," Dr. Nasseri said.

One place where this was exemplified was at the Worldwide Technology stand where they were displaying a new generative AI solution for ADNOC.

Panorama Guardian, a generative AI solution uses ADNOC data to create interactive maps of all the different assets within the grid.

However, rather than just collect them, its built-in AI agent can provide timely updates and recommendations to ADNOC staff about grid outages, and provide reports and information on demand.

Ajay Dadheech, Head, Management Consulting UAE Data & AI Strategy at World Wide Technology, told Aletihad on Tuesday, "In layman's terms this is like a ChatGpt for the energy sector, we think any company can start to build interactive dashboards like this one."

"We have built this as a pilot for ADNOC and it is built on so much data, more data than any human can comprehend, so we think it will become a really great solution."

Away from the technical data-driven solutions, there were also more novel and practical solutions on display, including a robot dog that would take the risk out of inspections on mining sites.

Lorenzo Salusti, a senior field service public lead at Bake Hughes, said, "The big solution here is safety, this robot will allow us to reduce the number of people who have to go to dangerous sites for inspections."

"It is more than just a gimmick this will change the way we do business on dangerous sites."
