As Abu Dhabi hosts the second edition of the Global Media Congress under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, we are reminded of the emirate’s accelerating recognition as a global media capital.
Following the exceptional success of the 2022 edition, this year’s event, set to kick off on Tuesday, symbolises more than just a gathering; it is a testament to Abu Dhabi’s growing influence and strategic vision in the global media landscape.
This edition is set to see a significant increase in participation, with a 33% rise in exhibiting companies and a 22% growth in the number of participating countries. Thirty-one countries are participating in the Congress for the first time, and the exhibition area has increased by 78%, mirroring the global media industry’s growing acknowledgement of Abu Dhabi’s crucial role in shaping the future of media.
Over the years, the UAE has transformed into a sustainable source of ambitious media initiatives and solutions to challenges facing the industry. The country’s media cities have become attractive hubs for international, regional, and local media projects, thanks to incentives such as 100% ownership, a tax-free environment, and ease of registration and establishment services. This environment not only nurtures existing talent, but also attracts the best and brightest minds, naturally drawn to this carefully fostered culture of innovation and expertise.
The second edition of the Congress will witness the gathering of media leaders, who will actively collaborate to shape the future of the industry. Major topics like AI and Technology in the Newsroom, Environmental Journalism, and Innovating Sports Journalism are not just subjects for discussion and debate; they are avenues to address vital pathways forward in the ever-evolving contemporary media landscape.
This edition’s focus on disinformation and data journalism amid the challenge of retaining audiences with engaging content demonstrates the Congress’ commitment to tackling current challenges, while discussions surrounding the Next Generation of Media Leaders highlight the event’s forward-focused vision.
A key focus of the Congress is on networking and partnerships. In an industry that thrives on connections and collaboration, this seminal event offers professionals a unique opportunity to build and strengthen relationships. It’s a gathering of minds where experiences are shared, and partnerships are forged, setting the stage for future collaborative ventures.
As we witness the unfolding of this year’s Global Media Congress, it’s evident that Abu Dhabi is not just hosting an event; it is crafting a legacy. The Congress is poised to build on the UAE’s increasingly significant role as a supportive environment for media talents, a platform for the exchange of expertise, and a beacon for innovation, not just in the media, but across disciplines.
The world watches as Abu Dhabi takes centre stage to witness the active formation of the industry’s future. The world is aware; the future of the industry lies in Abu Dhabi.
