The World Future Energy Summit 2024 (WFES 2024), hosted by Masdar in Abu Dhabi, kicks off today (Tuesday) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). Running until April 19, the summit will convene more than 350 global leaders, innovators, and experts in sustainable energy to address pressing challenges and opportunities within the world’s energy landscape, and assess how companies and communities can meet their carbon-neutral objectives.
Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President & CEO of UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators (UICCA), will attend the summit and will be delivering the opening remarks.
The summit is set to accelerate the remarkable progress made at COP28 last year, when the “UAE Consensus” was forged at the first-ever UN Climate Change Conference held in the UAE. Featuring more than 400 exhibiting companies, and expecting more than 30,000 visitors, the summit will feature a diverse programme including keynote speeches, panel discussions, workshops and exhibitions.
The landmark UAE Consensus and its multi-faceted mandates will be at the core of discussions at the WFES 2024, where a dedicated Climate and Environment Conference will explore the expansive outcomes of COP28. Discussions will also focus on renewable energy technologies, energy transition, carbon capture, EcoWASTE, smart cities, green finance, eMobility as well as agriculture, utilities, construction, transport, and healthcare.
For the first time, the summit will include an embedded one-day conference titled “Pathway to 1.5C”, where government ministers will highlight the importance of effective policy frameworks, equitable energy transition, technological innovation, and climate action imperative to achieving a net-zero future.
The WFES 2024 aims to bridge the gap between targets set at last year’s UN Climate Change Conference and their successful implementation. Moreover, the Summit aims to facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange among participants to accelerate the transition towards a sustainable and resilient energy future. Given the urgent need to combat climate change and reduce carbon emissions, the three-day summit serves as a vital platform for driving innovation and fostering partnerships across industries and sectors.
