The recently inaugurated Hanging Gardens in the city of Kalba, in Sharjah, has become a welcome addition to the city’s Ramadan nights, offering Muslims an ideal location to rejuvenate with nature and connect with community members after a long day of fasting.

In accordance with the directives of High Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the garden aims to serve as a vibrant hub to foster tourism, and economy, and enrich the cultural scene of Kalba.

Spanning 1.6 million square feet and rising to a height of 281 metres above sea level, the Hanging Gardens is located on the Sharjah-Kalba Road, after the Al Hiyar Tunnel.

An integral part of the Kalba’s overall development plan, the Hanging Gardens feature 54 species of plants and over 100,000 trees. Designated areas have been allocated for different age groups, in addition to seating spots, walkways, BBQ areas, and public amenities.

The garden features multi-level mountain climbing routes, terraced agriculture, a waterfall and lush greenery. Furthermore, the garden boasts a three-level skating rink for children, beginners and professionals, and a 760-metre running track.

Excursion Train

A key attraction of the park is the 820-metre-long excursion train, which can carry 55 people. It has four stations, making three stops in the gardens and another one at the upper cafeteria. Umbrellas and waiting areas at the train stations ensure a comfortable ride for visitors. With a semi-circular shape and traditional architectural design, the main restaurant at the centre of the garden can seat 215 people.

Additionally, housing restrooms, prayer rooms for men and women, and a cafeteria, the project offers a number of services for visitors, including parking spaces for 262 vehicles, parking for people of determination, and electric vehicle charging stations.

During the holy month, the Hanging Gardens draw large crowds especially on weekends. Amira Alamiry, a Kalba resident, expressed her excitement at the launch of the garden. “We were eagerly awaiting the opening. It is an amazing recreation place. The place is different from other gardens, due to its design and lighting,” Alamiry told Aletihad.

Khawla Alqaidy, a media person, shared her experience during her first visit to the garden. “I visited the Hanging Gardens for the first time to inspect the place for filming a programme, and after being amazed by the natural beauty of the gardens, I visited it for the second time with my family,” Alqaidy told Aletihad.

“The place is wonderful and distinguished by its picturesque location. It contains all the necessary facilities for families,” she added.
