The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) has concluded its healthy eating awareness campaign.

The month-long campaign, conducted between February and March, aimed to encourage the public to integrate five servings of fruits and vegetables into their daily meals by offering guidance, advice, and motivation. The campaign also encouraged the consumption of locally produced fruits and vegetables.

Campaign events were held across the country, in locations such as RAK Mall in Ras Al Khaimah, Qidfa Corniche in Fujairah, City Centre Ajman, City Centre Al Zahia in Sharjah, and Al Khawaneej Walk in Dubai.

Enhancing Public Health

Dr. Hussain Abdulrahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector, sterssed that the awareness campaign is part of the MoHAP’s preventive healthcare strategy that centres on community programmes that enhance public health. The campaign provided community members with accurate information and practical advice for healthy nutrition, motivating them to consume fruits and vegetables in their daily meals in a sustainable, healthy way, he said.

Nouf Khamis Al Ali, Director of the Health Promotion Department at MoHAP, said: “The nutritional campaign played a pivotal role in heightening community awareness about the benefits of a proper diet, underscoring the significance of including vegetables and fruits in daily meals. The initiative was launched following a study examining current vegetable and fruit consumption trends within the community, which revealed that 83% of community members fall short of incorporating these essential foods into their diet. This highlights the critical need to motivate and equip them with the necessary information and guidance to integrate vegetables and fruits into their daily meal plans.”
