DUBAI (ALETIHAD)

Dubai Police issued 7,735 traffic fines and impounded 1,630 vehicles for excessive noise and unauthorised vehicle modifications during the first nine months of 2026, as part of an ongoing crackdown on practices that disturb residents and endanger road users.

The General Department of Traffic recorded 2,045 noise-related violations and impounded 333 vehicles, while 5,690 violations involving unauthorised modifications to vehicle engines or chassis resulted in 1,297 impoundments.

The enforcement campaigns aim to curb disruptive driving behaviour, particularly in residential neighbourhoods, and promote safer roads across the emirate.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, said excessive noise from cars and motorcycles, particularly those fitted with modified engines or exhaust systems, poses a serious concern for residents. He said loud vehicles can disturb communities, especially late at night, and negatively affect public health.

Sudden or unusually loud sounds can also distract drivers and other road users, increasing the risk of traffic accidents.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan said Dubai Police are stepping up inspections and traffic monitoring to identify offenders and take appropriate legal action.

Fines and Penalties
Under UAE traffic regulations, driving a vehicle that causes excessive noise is punishable by a fine of Dh2,000 and 12 black points.

Unauthorised modifications to a vehicle’s engine or chassis carry a fine of Dh1,000, 12 black points, and vehicle impoundment for 30 days.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan said additional measures may apply depending on the nature and severity of the offence under Dubai Decree No. 30 of 2023 on vehicle impoundment. These may include applicable vehicle release fees in cases covered by the decree.

He stressed that Dubai Police will take firm action against violations that threaten road safety or disturb residents.

Expanded Vehicle Noise Detection
Dubai Police also plans to increase the number of devices used to detect and measure vehicle noise, expanding their deployment across roads and areas where such violations occur. The technology will help identify noise sources and offending vehicles, enhancing traffic monitoring and enforcement.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan said the expansion reflects Dubai Police’s commitment to using smart technologies to improve road safety and protect the community’s quality of life.

Brigadier bin Suwaidan urged vehicle owners, particularly young motorists, to comply with traffic laws, avoid unauthorised engine and exhaust modifications, and refrain from driving in ways that disturb others. He said responsible driving demonstrates respect for fellow road users and residents.

Road Safety Resources

Dubai Police urged motorists and community members to visit the Aman Roads Platform at www.amanroads.gov.ae for practical guidance and educational information on traffic safety.

The platform aims to raise awareness of dangerous driving behaviour, promote compliance with traffic regulations and help prevent accidents, thereby protecting lives and property.
