ALLAN JACOB (ABU DHABI)

UAE travellers will have to wait a while longer for Wizz Air’s affordable flights to Europe, with the low-cost airline cancelling its busy winter schedule to the country due to airspace disruptions and longer routes that have raised operational costs. The airline said will return to Dubai and Abu Dhabi in March 2027.

“Wizz Air confirms that it has postponed the planned restart of its Abu Dhabi and Dubai routes, cancelling all flights to and from both destinations for the winter season, from October 25, 2026, to March 27, 2027,” a spokesperson said.

The carrier said airspace restrictions due to the regional situation had led to longer routes which had affected operational costs.

“Regional airspace restrictions extended on September 30 require significantly longer routings to these destinations, increasing flight times and costs and making both A321neo and A321XLR operations commercially unviable under current conditions,” the airline said.

Flights to and from Amman in Jordan have also been affected after the European Union Aviation Safety Agency's latest Conflict Zone Information Bulletin, which recommended that airlines do not operate within Jordanian airspace at any altitude.

Wizz Air said it will continue to monitor developments, reassessing operations as safety guidance and operating conditions evolve.
