The launch of Etihad Rail’s passenger services between Abu Dhabi and Dubai will shorten commute times for residents who will cover the distance in just one hour. Media were offered a first-hand travel experience on Tuesday ahead of the opening for the public on Wednesday.
Officials emphasised the network's operational readiness, connectivity and contribution to the nation's transportation infrastructure.
The launch is a major accomplishment for the UAE, according to Adhraa Al Mansoori, Executive Director of Commercial and Support at Etihad Rail, who told Aletihad said the rail network is now operational ahead of schedule.
"We are commemorating the network's formal opening today from the Al Yalayis station in Dubai. Looking back to December 2021, when the project was first announced, it is a memorable occasion. Less than five years later, we are now launching the railroad services ahead of schedule," she stated.
Following the start of passenger services between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah on June 30, Al Mansoori pointed out that the train has drawn travellers from a variety of backgrounds and nationalities, including families, people of determination, university students and workers.
The network will link Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Fujairah. There will be ten daily services between Abu Dhabi and Dubai, with five services in each direction. There will be six more daily services between Fujairah and Abu Dhabi and six between Dubai and Fujairah.
Dubai station will be connected to Jumeirah Golf Estates Metro Station, which is about 400 meters away via a dedicated pedestrian bridge. Al Mansoori stated that travellers can quickly connect to the Red Line of the Dubai Metro and travel to various locations throughout the city.
To facilitate travellers' subsequent trips, the station will also provide access to ride-hailing services, taxis, car rentals and shuttle services.
Passengers can choose from a variety of travel options with ticket prices between Abu Dhabi and Dubai starting at Dh39 for Comfort Class and Dh109 for Premium Class.
The onboard dining experience, according to chef Maitha Warshaw, has been created to satisfy passengers' needs while reflecting Emirati culture.
"Given how much time passengers spend on trains, we are attempting to integrate Emirati flavours into a grab-and-go concept. Additionally, we are utilising local vendors, produce, and flavors on board," she stated.
The first Emirati train captain, Ibrahim Al Hammadi, said that passenger comfort and safety are still important to the railway's operations.
"While upholding the highest safety standards and guaranteeing a comfortable experience for everyone, we are making sure that passengers enjoy a smooth journey from beginning to end," he said.
