ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

Abu Dhabi Police (ADP) shared a list of safety guidelines for electric bicycle and scooter users in the emirate. The post on X aims to raise awareness in order to protect all road users.

The post started by stressing the importance of always wearing protective equipment such as helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads.

Electric bicycle and scooter users were also urged to use designated bike lanes, ride with the direction of traffic flow, and stay off roads intended for motor vehicles.

Additionally, ADP reiterated the need to abide by speed limits and avoid exceeding them, as well as follow traffic signals and road signs, which include yielding to other road users as required by law.

The post also stated users should not carry any passengers or heavy loads, which can cause loss of balance and therefore increase the risk of road accidents.

ADP advised against using earbuds and cell phones while riding to maintain focus and awareness of one’s surroundings.

Always ensure that the electric bike or scooter is in good working condition before getting on the road. Make sure to check the brakes, tyres, and lights.

Finally, ADP called on users to ride with caution, especially in crowded areas, always give way to pedestrians, and refrain from any dangerous passing manoeuvres or stunts.
