MUDHI ALOBTHANI (ABU DHABI)

A convoy of cars decorated in UAE colours travelled between two historic Abu Dhabi landmarks on Sunday in a moving celebration of national pride and identity.

The route for the Proud of the UAE march connected Al Maqta Fort and Qasr Al Hosn, two structures that witnessed much of Abu Dhabi's early history. Al Maqta Fort once protected the main crossing into Abu Dhabi Island and helped guard trade routes, while Qasr Al Hosn began as a watchtower before becoming the seat of government.

Aisha Bin Yousef described the convoy as "one family on the road", united by flags, music and a shared sense of national pride.

Mariam, another participant, said the vehicles' synchronised movement stood as a symbolic display of togetherness and unity.

For those at the event, the parade was a powerful reminder of how the Emirates rose from a desert settlement into a thriving nation.

"The journey between Al Maqta Fort and Qasr Al Hosn served as a reflection of transformation - from early protection and defence to a modern nation defined by pride, unity and development," said Nabeel Ali Al Jaashani, one of the participants.

Khalid Al Hosani, another attendee, said the event revived important chapters of Abu Dhabi's past, particularly the role of forts in safeguarding the emirate and preserving its historical identity.

Al Jaashani also appreciated how the march brought generations together in a setting enriched by the nation's heritage.

The two cultural landmarks came alive with Al-Ayyala performances, poetry and experiences that allowed children to engage with Emirati identity, he said.

For Fatima Abdullah Jassim Al Hosani and Khalil Jassim Khalifa Al Hosani, seeing these traditions still celebrated today was a heartwarming reminder of the UAE's living heritage and the strong sense of belonging it continues to inspire.
