SAMIHAH ZAMAN (ABU DHABI)

Transport authorities in Abu Dhabi will now issue permits for heavy vehicle movement on key roads, as part of an initiative to ensure smoother operations for commercial entities across the emirate.

The Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police, announced round-the-clock processing of heavy vehicle permits on Thursday.

"Driven by the importance of supporting the logistics transport sector and enhancing the efficiency of freight movement, the Integrated Transport Centre (Abu Dhabi Mobility), in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Police, has announced the activation of 24-hour permit issuance for heavy vehicle movement," Abu Dhabi Mobility said in a statement.

"This initiative provides greater flexibility for companies, enabling them to carry out their operations smoothly around the clock," the authority added.

According to the statement, Abu Dhabi Mobility will provide permits on a 24-hour basis for certain routes:
• Abu Dhabi - Sweihan Road (E20), extending from the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Road (E311) interchange to the Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road (E311) interchange, in both directions
• Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Road, extending from the Al Shawamekh interchange (E20) to the Al Rawdah Street (E30) interchange in both directions

Companies can apply for the permits through Abu Dhabi Government's TAMM platform.

A map shared by Abu Dhabi Mobility shows how heavy vehicle bans have been enforced by the authorities since December 1, 2025, with the aim of limiting interaction between light and heavy vehicles to improve road safety.

The ban is currently implemented for heavy vehicle movement on the Sheikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Road (E11) and Al Raha Beach Road (E10), with traffic diverted to the Fayha - Seih Shaib and Al-Haffar (Al-Adlah) roads.

A ban also applies on truck movement during peak hours along Al Rawdah Street (E30) in the Mussafah area - from the Bridges Complex to the Truck Bridge, with an alternate route mapped out through the ICAD Bridge.

Freight companies must apply for permits prior to heavy vehicle movement on these roads.

Abu Dhabi Mobility earlier announced that it has also designated certain roads for heavy vehicles - Seih Shuaib Road (E75) and Al Haffar Road - with the routes equipped to accommodate larger automobiles.
