ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

As part of Abu Dhabi Police and the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority's winter safety campaign, the public was advised to follow safety guidelines when using firewood and heating devices.

The authorities called on the public to utilise all heating methods with caution to avoid preventable accidents, such as house fires or suffocation, that occur as a result of misuse.

Among the list of recommendations, the public was advised to refrain from lighting fires using firewood or charcoal inside homes without proper safety measures.

The importance of exercising caution when using wood-burning heaters, particularly at night, was reiterated, as well as the dangers of sleeping near fire sources.

The proper exhaust systems and adequate ventilation are necessary to ensure safety, the authorities stressed.

Additionally, heaters should not be left unattended, and fires must be extinguished outside the home, they noted.

Adequate installation and placement of heating devices (and related wiring) is essential, as well as regular maintenance of such devices.

Authorities also mentioned that users should not use heaters for cooking food, drying clothes, or burning incense.
