Indonesia’s newly appointed Ambassador to the UAE, Judha Nugraha, has reaffirmed the depth and momentum of Indonesia–UAE relations, saying ties have evolved beyond traditional diplomacy into a comprehensive partnership spanning key sectors, including economics, people-to-people links, and healthcare.

Speaking at a media gathering in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday, Nugraha described the UAE as one of Indonesia’s most strategic partners and a regional and global hub connecting Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. This growing collaboration comes as the two countries prepare to mark 50 years of diplomatic relations in 2026.

Economically, the ambassador pointed to the UAE-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) as a turning point. Since its entry into force in 2023, bilateral trade has grown rapidly, rising from around $3 billion to $5.5 billion in 2024, marking an increase of approximately 20% in just one year.
“We are confident and looking forward to reaching $10 billion in annual trade within five years, reflecting the strength of non-oil trade and diversified economic cooperation between the two countries,” Nugraha added.

The ambassador noted that UAE investments in Indonesia have exceeded $14 billion, supported by sovereign wealth funds and long-term strategic projects in renewable energy, infrastructure, logistics, healthcare and digital sectors.

People-to-people relations remain at the core of the partnership, the ambassador said. More than 81,000 Indonesian nationals currently reside in the UAE, most of them working in sectors such as hospitality, aviation, construction and services, contributing directly to the country’s development.

The ambassador also highlighted the humanitarian and medical cooperation between the UAE and Indonesia as a key dimension of bilateral relations.

“The UAE is not only a trusted partner but also a strategic gateway for Indonesia to the wider region,” Nugraha said, noting that Indonesia sees the country as a key hub for trade, investment, and innovation as both countries continue to develop a future-oriented partnership.
