With its commitment to global solidarity, the UAE is recognised as a leader in humanitarian efforts. Through its partnerships with organisations around the world, it has remained present on the ground — making a difference in the most vulnerable communities and delivering aid where it is needed the most, the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) said in a statement to Aletihad.

In observance of World Humanitarian Day, the ERC highlights how the legacy of the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, continues to inspire the nation and its people — making it “one of the largest donors to humanitarian work worldwide”.

“The Emirates Red Crescent Authority follows the same approach charted by the champion of humanity, the UAE’s Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to sustain giving and provide assistance to those in need everywhere, regardless of gender, race, or religion,” the authority said.

In extending a helping hand, everyone is equal in the eyes of the UAE and its wise leadership, it added.

“Our national authority works everywhere to alleviate the suffering of humanity through the assistance it provides and through the volunteers who work in crisis and emergency situations,” it said.

By teaming up with global organisations such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the United Nations, the UAE is able to swiftly deliver aid to the vulnerable — keeping its boots on the ground in areas of crises and disasters, the ERC said.

Beyond emergency relief, the ERC ensures the lasting impact of its humanitarian efforts.

“There is no doubt that sustainability in humanitarian work is a priority… especially in the health, education, social, and other service sectors,” it said.

“The ERC has adopted this approach for many years, working to implement long-term projects with sustainable impact on the lives of beneficiaries in many countries.”

Innovation is also playing a key role in expanding the ERC’s mission.

“The Emirates Red Crescent Authority is planning the future of its humanitarian work using innovative and unconventional tools, harnessing science, knowledge, and technology to serve its programmes and enhance its humanitarian and development initiatives.”
