ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

A new book published by TRENDS Research & Advisory underscores the vital role played by think tanks in shaping public policy and enhancing a nation’s soft power.

The book, authored by Dr. Mohammed Abdullah Al-Ali, CEO of TRENDS, is titled “Think Tanks in a Changing World: Shifts, Roles, and Challenges”. It reflects years of research and studies on the evolution of think tanks and their influence in a world characterised by uncertainty.

Dr. Al-Ali explained that the book, structured into five main chapters across 230 pages, traces the development of think tanks from their early beginnings to the present day. It focuses on the challenges these institutions face, such as funding, competitiveness, and the growing impact of technology.

The book also delves into future foresight strategies, how think tanks contribute to public policymaking, shape public opinion, and bridge theory with practice by transforming academic research into practical solutions.

The author emphasised the book’s focus on the importance of think tanks as a link between researchers and policymakers, helping to educate the public on various political issues. These intellectual institutions, he noted, play an increasingly important role in promoting international cooperation and achieving national governance amid dynamic global changes.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Ali expressed hope that this publication would foster intellectual dialogue on the role of think tanks in the modern era and encourage more researchers and institutions to engage in this vital field.

He stressed that the book serves as a key reference for those interested in public affairs and policymakers, offering an in-depth perspective on how think tanks can overcome current challenges and seize opportunities to enhance their sustainability and societal impact.
