DUBAI (ALETIHAD)

The Dubai Police's Humanitarian Care Section, in collaboration with partners, provided Dh7,708,514 in financial and in-kind assistance to 6,390 male and female inmates of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments during 2023.

In a statement issued, His Excellency Major General Marwan Abdul Karim Julfar, Director of the General Department of Punitive and Correctional Establishments, commended the humanitarian efforts of philanthropists, charitable organisations, and associations.

He emphasised that financial assistance reflects the deep sense of solidarity, tolerance, and connection within Emirati society, highlighting the commitment of individuals and institutions to support inmates and offer them a second chance to rebuild their lives.

Maj. Gen. Julfar praised the Humanitarian Care Department team for their commitment to providing comprehensive support to inmates through the effective allocation of financial assistance, aligning with Dubai Police's strategic objective of enhancing community happiness.

Nearly half of the financial aid distributed last year was dedicated to alleviating the personal and bank debts of 94 inmates involved in financial cases, enabling them to be with their families, the statement added.

Maj. Gen. Julfar highlighted that last year's financial assistance was primarily aimed at helping with overdue rent, supporting inmates' financial needs, covering travel tickets, providing health supplies, paying educational fees, and funding humanitarian initiatives that brought joy to inmates.
