ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)
Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities (MBZUH) has enrolled 24 students from various countries worldwide in its inaugural Linguistic and Cultural Immersion Programme, which is taking place until December 21, 2024.
The programme aims to build bridges of cultural and civilisational communication based on shared human values, while enhancing and showcasing the positive image of the UAE. Through the programme, participants will gain firsthand insight into the noble values upheld by Emirati society.
The programme includes an introduction to the rich heritage of the UAE, one that’s authentic, diverse and connected to customs and traditions. It also provides an opportunity for students globally to engage in the Emirati culture more deeply, allowing them to meet various segments of society to learn about local customs and traditions, Emirati folklore, and traditional medicine. The programme also focuses on intensive workshops to enhance students' Arabic speaking and writing skills. It also includes literary reading sessions to deepen their understanding of the Arabic language.
The programme will also offer visits to several sites in Abu Dhabi such as art and culture museums, historical buildings, and festivals, as well as offering participants the opportunity to attend national and cultural events and celebrations among 60 diverse activities organised by MBZUH.
Dr Khalifa Al-Dhaheri, the university's chancellor, emphasised during his meeting with the programme's students that the initiative reflects the university's vision and commitment to fostering commonalities among people and enhancing human and civilised communication.
He noted that the programme reaffirms the university’s belief in the role of language and cultural engagement in promoting coexistence and tolerance and bridging gaps between nations. This ultimately contributes to achieving security and stability in societies and building a civilised, capable individual who believes in dialogue among civilisations as a path toward coexistence and respect for cultural diversity.
Dr Al-Dhaheri said: “The Linguistic and Cultural Immersion programme embodies the role of educational institutions in instilling the concept of cultural communication in students, making it a way of life. The programme also represents a qualitative shift in the efforts made in this regard, as it bridges the gap between intersecting civilisations and fosters tolerance through practical experiences, meetings, direct dialogues, and activities that offer a closer look at the authentic Arab customs and traditions rooted in our rich heritage and noble teachings of Islam."
