The UAE ranked fifth globally and first in the Middle East as an AI leader based on findings by Stanford Institute Human-Centred Artificial Intelligence's Global Vibrancy Tool 2024.

The tool utilises a total of 42 indicators to identify the world's leading countries in the field of AI.

The top five spots went to the US, China, UK, India, and the UAE, in that order.

The following five spots in the top 10 list include France, South Korea, Germany, Japan, and Singapore.

The ranking is based on data collected from 36 countries using a tracking tool that "measures a country’s AI ecosystem on key indicators including research papers, private investment, patents, and more," the institute's website explained.

The institute wrote, "In recent years, the United Arab Emirates has publicly committed to becoming a global leader in AI, investing heavily in quality research institutes like the Technology Innovation Institute."
