ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)

Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has announced the renaming of Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Week to Global Food Week (GFW), reflecting the significance of the event and Abu Dhabi's role in leading the global dialogue on the challenges and opportunities related to food security.

Global Food Week will take from 26-28 November 2024 at the ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, gathering global leaders, policy makers, and food security experts.

Global Food Week is expected to attract more global investments and partnerships within the agriculture and food sector in the UAE and the Middle East and support international efforts to strengthen food security and eradicate hunger around the world.

His Excellency Saeed Al Bahri Salem Al Ameri, Director General of ADAFSA, said: “Reaming Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Security Week as the Global Food Week represented an important landmark in the quest towards a more sustainable future. Through this high-profile global event, the emirate of Abu Dhabi and the UAE will reaffirm their commitment to taking a pioneering role in tackling increasingly urgent food-related challenges worldwide.

"The name change to Global Food Week reflects a comprehensive vision adopted by the government of Abu Dhabi and the UAE. This event aims to be a global platform that brings together decision-makers, experts, and specialists in agriculture, as well as international organisations. It will also address major global food issues on a broad scale, including global food supplies, nutrition, finance and investment, climate change, food loss and waste, and innovation and technology in the food sector."

His Excellency explained that the event will feature several events, including the inaugural Global Food Security Summit, which will gather global leaders and experts to assess pressing challenges and propose innovative solutions to reduce hunger.

Through exchanges of expertise, the summit would help accelerate Abu Dhabi’s ambitious efforts to build sustainable food systems in the UAE, the MENA region and the wider world. Global Food Week aims to support the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the Goal 2 objective of ending hunger, achieving food security, and increasing agricultural productivity.

Humaid Matar Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO of ADNEC Group, said: "Global Food Week highlights Abu Dhabi's growing leadership role in driving the global discussion on food security and sustainability. The event will bring together global leaders, experts, and innovators to collaborate in addressing some of the world's most pressing challenges.

“Global Food Week enhances Abu Dhabi’s position as a leader in agricultural innovation, while also attracting key investments and partnerships that strengthen food systems on both regional and global levels. Our goal is to support global efforts in developing sustainable solutions to ensure food security for future generations."

In addition to the Global Food Security Summit, Global Food Week will feature two international exhibitions, the 3rd edition of the Abu Dhabi International Food Exhibition (ADIFE) and the 10th Abu Dhabi Date Palm Exhibition (ADDPE). These events will showcase national programmes aimed at ensuring food abundance within an integrated food security system.

Abu Dhabi International Food Exhibition gives exhibitors from around the world an opportunity to connect with a wide network of investors and access one of the fastest growing markets in the global food and beverage sector.

Organised in partnership with the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, Abu Dhabi Date Palm Exhibition is the leading global event dedicated to enhancing the prominent position of dates in the MENA region.
