His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired the second meeting of the BRICS Steering Committee, held via video conferencing and attended by several UAE ministers and officials.

The meeting reviewed the latest updates and developments on the UAE’s engagement with the BRICS group and explored ways to further enhance this participation through strengthened coordination among all relevant entities in the country.

His Highness Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed commended the UAE’s significant contributions to the group and emphasised the importance of fostering collaboration among various entities to ensure effective participation, reflecting the UAE’s position and its commitment to advancing multilateral efforts with key global partners.

The meeting included a presentation by Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE BRICS Sherpa, where he highlighted the UAE’s robust participation in the group so far, noting that entities have participated in around 150 meetings and more than 25 ministerial meetings. Presentations were also given by UAE ministers and senior officials, providing an overview of the UAE's priorities and impressive progress in the UAE’s first year as a BRICS member.

Discussions also centred around the role of various stakeholders and proposed initiatives to enhance their involvement across the diverse working groups.

The meeting was attended by Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy; Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Abdullah bin Sultan bin Awad Al Nuaimi, Minister of Justice; Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture; Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment; Dr. Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of State for Foreign Trade; Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Minister of State; Khaled Mohamed Balama, Governor of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE); Humaid Obaid Abu Shabas, Chairman of the UAE Accountability Authority; Faisal Abdulaziz Al Bannai, Adviser to the UAE President for Strategic Research and Advanced Technology Affairs; and Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs. Also attending were a number of UAE senior officials.
