Chairman of the Federal National Council (FNC), Saqr Ghobash, held a meeting at the FNC headquarters in Abu Dhabi with Angelo Farrugia, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Malta, and his accompanying delegation, who are visiting the UAE at the invitation of the FNC.

The meeting discussed the existing friendship and parliamentary cooperation between the two sides, enhancing coordination and consultation on various issues of mutual interest.

They also explored ways to strengthen communication, exchange parliamentary visits and events, and hold bilateral parliamentary meetings aimed at parliamentary coordination during participation in regional and international parliamentary events, such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union.

The discussions highlighted the importance of exchanging parliamentary information and expertise, reflecting the vision of both countries' leadership, and aligning with their growing mutual interests.

During the meeting, Ghobash and Farrugia signed a cooperation agreement, reaffirming the shared interests of the FNC and Malta's House of Representatives in promoting security, stability, peace, and human rights protection.

The agreement also emphasised strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing frameworks for consultation, coordination, and the exchange of views on various issues of mutual concern.

It highlighted the importance of fostering communication through the exchange of visits and parliamentary events, as well as holding bilateral parliamentary meetings between representatives of both councils on the sidelines of joint regional and international forums.

Ghobash stressed that the UAE's policy is focused on building bridges of friendship and expanding cooperation with all countries worldwide.

He highlighted the importance of promoting cooperation, dialogue, and understanding based on tolerance, as well as diplomacy and peaceful solutions in resolving conflicts.

For his part, Farrugia praised the growing UAE-Malta ties across various fields, highlighting the importance of the agreement in boosting parliamentary relations and enhancing the role of parliamentary work in supporting government work.

The meeting was attended by a number of FNC officials and members.
