A passion for chocolate lands Hanan Faisal in the role of a chocolatier, fusing flavours of Emirati tradition and sustainability.

Inspired by the Emirati pronunciation of chocolate, Hanan founded Abu Dhabi’s premier chocolate factory, Chaclet: Emirati Chocolatier. The factory embodies Emirati culture in its chocolate-making by incorporating traditional flavours such as cardamom, saffron, rose, and dates, Hanan said.

“The inspiration stemmed from my early passion for chocolate, sparked by visits to various chocolate factories in France, Switzerland, Germany, and the UK. This dream evolved into a desire to establish a local Emirati chocolate factory, aiming to create a unique tourist destination for chocolate lovers in the UAE,” Hanan told Aletihad.


“We source the finest European ingredients and blend them with local flavours, creating a distinct fusion that resonates with the Emirati palate.”

According to Hanan, by combining traditional Emirati flavours with European techniques, her company caters to international tastes, offering a variety of chocolates that appeal to diverse preferences while maintaining “our unique Emirati touch”.

Hanan sources ingredients from certified European suppliers, and focuses on sustainability.

As the first of its kind in the UAE, the factory offers a unique blend of business and learning, with its glass walls giving a clear view of the entire chocolate-making process.

In the café, guests can enjoy chocolate and Arabic coffee, while the camel milk ice cream station spotlights camel milk’s benefits and caters specifically to children.

The café also provides a cosy space to relax and offers special factory tour bookings for corporate and VIP events.

As part of its commitment to education and Emirati heritage, the firm integrates workshops and cultural elements into its offerings.

The workshops and programmes are designed for all ages, promoting mental wellbeing and welcoming everyone from families to professionals.

Participants, wearing hats and aprons, become chocolatiers and earn a certificate upon finishing the workshop.

Visitors can explore the chocolate-making process from bean to bar through an interactive factory tour, guided by an expert chef who shares surprising insights and methods.

Hanan noted that they work with both local talents and international experts to keep things fresh and exciting. “These collaborations help us bring in new flavours and techniques while staying true to our Emirati roots,” she said.

“Our vision is to elevate Emirati chocolate to an international level, making it a globally recognised brand. We aim to continue expanding our product line and experiences while supporting local talent and promoting Emirati culture worldwide.”
