Maryam Majid bin Theneya, Second Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC) and Chair of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean (PAM) Women Parliamentary Forum presented the report of the Advisory Council of the Women’s Parliamentary Forum (WPF) to the closing session of the 2nd Economic Parliamentary Forum for Euro-Mediterranean Region & Gulf, which held in Marrakech, Kingdom of Morocco.

Bin Theneya pointed out that the 2024 Global Gender Gap Report issued by the World Economic Forum showed that the global gender gap has closed by only 1% in one year. For the Mediterranean Parliament regions, the gender parity score in European countries reached 75 per cent in 2024, while the Middle East and North Africa regions ranked last at 61.7 per cent.

She also explained that among the 32 member parliaments of the Mediterranean Parliaments, seven are chaired by women, while the participation rate of women parliamentarians is about 25 percent.
