The Mohammed bin Rashid Library (MBRL) has offered the public a glimpse of their upcoming Arab Journalism Exhibition, scheduled to open its doors in June.
Garnering significant attention at the Arab Media Summit in Dubai, the exhibition's stand showcased of number of the items that will be displayed at the main event.
The Head of Events and Activities Section at MBRL, Fatma Fikree, told Aletihad that the stand at the summit aims to provide a preview of the Arab Journalism Exhibition which will showcase two types of periodicals: newspapers and magazines.
"There will be around 600 items in the exhibition, the oldest of which dates back to the 1920s. The periodicals fall under different categories including UAE journalism, children, women, arts, and specialised journals," Fikree explained.
She noted that the exhibition sheds light on the history of journalism in the UAE, and celebrates how far Arab journalism has come over the years.
"It's all about the evolution of Arab media and newspapers over time," Fikree added.
Promising a fascinating "Journey through History," the year-long exhibition will feature panel talks and workshops including sessions on how to preserve old items, such as those showcased at the exhibition.
"We invite those who love history, media, magazines, newspapers, and reading, to come and check it out," Fikree said.
She explained that this project comes as part of MBRL’s continuous efforts to highlight different sections at the library, with this initiative spotlighting their periodicals collection.
Notably, the free-of-charge exhibition will be open to the public every day from 9am to 9pm, except on Fridays, when doors will be open from 2pm to 9pm. The exhibition will be closed on Sundays.
