ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)
On the sidelines of Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week (ADGHW), the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) signed an agreement with the International Federation for Emergency Medicine (IFEM) to support the growth of emergency medicine in the emirate through the provision of technical services, expertise and the exchange of experiences and knowledge.
As part of the agreement, the IFEM inaugurated its first regional office in the emirate as part of the agreement with the DoH.
In the presence of His Excellency Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), Dr Saleh Al Ali, Executive Director of the Centre for Emergency Preparedness and Response (CEPAR), Dr Srinath Kumar T S, Treasurer at Society of Emergency Medicine India, the agreement was signed by Her Excellency Dr Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), and Dr Ffion Davies, President of the International Federation of Emergency Medicine (IFEM).
Fuelled by the power of cross-sector collaboration, exemplified by the DoH and IFEM agreement signing, the always-on platform serves as a springboard for the department to attract leading international organisations to work alongside the UAE, and leverage their expertise to support national projects and initiatives.
Dr Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) said: “The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) continues to spearhead borderless collaborations with our key partners across the global ecosystem, working hand in hand to accelerate the future of healthcare to make quality health a global priority. Signing an agreement with our esteemed partners from the IFEM during Abu Dhabi Global Healthcare Week (ADGHW), has provided us with a platform to showcase our joint efforts to solve future health challenges in the field of emergency medicine, today. Together with IFEM, we look forward to advancing emergency medicine excellence and ensuring universal access to high-quality emergency medical care for the Abu Dhabi community and beyond.”
This collaboration supports specialist emergency doctors and their teams across the world for joint training expertise and research and development initiatives across various scientific and academic domains with a focus on skill enhancement.
Dr Ffion Davies, President of the International Federation of Emergency Medicine (IFEM) said: “IFEM and the DoH share the same vision of global improvement in the care of patients who suffer sudden illness or injury, who deserve emergency specialist care. This is an exciting development for IFEM as it provides a geographical hub of activity, which has been lacking since the pandemic. Conveniently located in terms of geography and time zones, the staff and offices will make a real difference.”
This is not the first collaboration between the two entities, over the past few years, DoH and IFEM co-led a series of impactful educational programmes and events focused on the advancement of emergency medicine.
In late 2023, supported by the department, the IFEM organised the Global Emergency Nursing Summit connecting emergency nursing experts from across the globe to share knowledge, address challenges and celebrate advancements in the field of emergency nursing.
