H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior, met with Kojo Boakye, Head of Operations and Public Policy for the Africa, Middle East and Turkey region at the Meta Group, and Helen Charles, Director of Public Policy at WhatsApp.
In his meeting with Meta officials, Lt. Gen. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed discussed strategies for collaborating on adopting and implementing technical procedures to enhance crime-fighting initiatives, specifically focusing on curbing the dissemination of drug-promoting content.
Stressing the significance of addressing this issue, he highlighted its potential to bolster community protection efforts, particularly for the youth and adolescents who are frequent users of digital platforms.
The Ministry of Interior, the Office of Artificial Intelligence, the Communications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority, and the global company "Meta" are jointly engaged in ongoing endeavours to intercept and track suspicious messages aimed at promoting drugs and illegal substances on social media platforms. These concerted efforts have swiftly led to a noteworthy decrease in the volume of drug-related messages, setting a new record for effectiveness.
