The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has harnessed the power of robotic process automation (RPA) to enhance efficiency and simplify operations, resulting in a 99% improvement in data accuracy. With the implementation of RPA technology, the DMT managed to complete 500,000 transactions, saving 63,000 work hours, and reducing the time and effort of 120 employees.
The department’s recent data showed that it has completed 42 automated processes with robots, boosting efficiency. Routine tasks that once took days to complete are now accomplished in mere minutes, thanks to automated processes involving robots.
The DMT’s commitment to excellence extends beyond efficiency gains. By leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) for routine tasks and procedures, employees are freed from repetitive work. This strategic move allows them to channel their creativity and innovation, ultimately enhancing municipal services and elevating customer satisfaction rates, promoting progress towards digital transformation and integrated e-government. Among the services implemented through RPA are the approval of employee sick leaves, in addition to supporting financial services and real estate registration.
The DMT’s vision aligns with global best practices in performance development. The department is actively expanding the use of RPA across all sectors, affiliated municipalities, and subsidiary centres. This comprehensive programme aims to automate processes, improve services, and leverage cutting-edge AI technologies, to transform the DMT into a smart government entity. It also allows the DMT’s leadership to achieve and implement the best global practices into the department’s performance development and public services.
The DMT’s approach transcends routine performance. Employees are encouraged to think outside the box, fostering a culture of renewal, innovation, and pioneering ideas. The robotic system accelerates transaction processing, streamlines procedures, and empowers employees to explore creative solutions.
The outputs of AI extend beyond efficiency gains. Operating costs decrease, and the time required to complete tasks, procedures, transactions, and requests is significantly reduced, enhancing productivity and improved quality, both quantitatively and qualitatively.
