The Abu Dhabi Waste Management Company (Tadweer) has announced ambitious plans to significantly increase its recycling infrastructure by installing an additional 100 source separation units throughout Abu Dhabi by 2025. This initiative, aimed at bolstering the Emirate’s waste management system and services, builds on the existing 20 units currently facilitating the collection of recyclable materials in various locales.

This expansion is part of Tadweer’s broader strategy to foster social responsibility and environmental stewardship among the Abu Dhabi community, urging individuals to segregate waste at its origin and dispose of it appropriately. By leveraging global standards and the latest technologies, the initiative not only aligns with the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030’s sustainability goals but also seeks to incentivise public participation in proper waste management practices. This effort aims at optimal waste utilisation, transforming waste into eco-friendly resources that contribute positively to the local economy.

The proposed units will be equipped to process approximately 16 types of recyclable materials, including paper, glass (clear and coloured), wood, among others. This is in line with the company’s objective to achieve a clean, safe, healthy, and sustainable environment by recycling waste into valuable products.

Moreover, Tadweer’s strategic vision targets an 80% waste diversion rate from landfills by 2030, underscoring its commitment to sustainability and circular economy principles, which are expected to stimulate innovation, reduce waste, and potentially create 6 million jobs by 2030.

Furthermore, Tadweer aims to enhance its operational capabilities across a spectrum of waste management activities. This includes waste collection, operating waste-to-energy plants, and recycling stations capable of processing plastics, cooking oils, car tyres, electronics, alongside developing stations for producing sustainable fuel from waste.

This initiative represents a significant step forward in Abu Dhabi’s journey towards a more sustainable and circular economy.
