Motorists in the UAE, who have racked up traffic fines in Abu Dhabi, can avail a discount on them, according to a scheme announced by the Abu Dhabi Police.

In 2023, the capital’s police force issued a notice reminding motorists that they can avail of a 35 per cent discount through the traffic fine payment plan.

How the plan works

As per the plan, a discount of 35% is applicable if the traffic fine is paid within the initial 60 days from the violation date.

However, this discount does not apply to severe violations, the force said.

Motorists can also avail a discount of 25 per cent on fines if the payment is made after 60 days but within one year from the date the traffic fine was issued.

Traffic fines can be paid in instalments through banks with a zero interest rate for a period of 12 months.

Fines payment channels:

- Via the police website: www.adpolice.gov.ae

- Smart apps: Abu Dhabi Police and Abu Dhabi Government’s TAMM

- Direct payment at Customer Service & Happiness Centres

- Through the mobile applications of the following participating UAE banks: Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank (ADCB), Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB), Mashreq Al Islami and Emirates Islamic Bank.

In order to pay fines via the aforementioned banks, drivers must have credit cards issued by one of these banks. Motorists must contact the bank directly to request payment of traffic fines in instalments.

The scheme aims to encourage drivers to pay their traffic fines by taking advantage of the discounts, ease their financial burden by avoiding accumulating fines — in turn improving driving records and enhancing road safety.

ITC launches easy fines payment service for customers

Earlier in January 2024, Abu Dhabi's Integrated Transport Centre of the Department of Municipalities and Transport launched an "easy payment" service for customers to pay their ITC fines through instalments.

Currently, credit card holders from First Abu Dhabi Bank, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank, and Emirates Islamic Bank, can benefit from this service, with plans to include more banks by the first half of 2024.

The service allows customers to pay the ITC fines through several instalments, with a minimum value of Dh3,000.
