HALA AL KHAYYAT (ABU DHABI)
The Abu Dhabi City Municipality is implementing several projects for the operation and maintenance of rainwater networks in the mainland, targeting four areas: Al Wathba, Zayed City, Musaffah, and Al Shahama, as part of its preparations for the upcoming rainy season.
The projects aim to preserve and enhance the efficiency of rainwater drainage networks through periodic maintenance and cleaning. According to the municipality, rainwater drainage stations undergo weekly, monthly, tri-annual, and annual maintenance, repeated annually according to the municipality’s approved maintenance programme.
The maintenance process includes cleaning and removing blockages in rainwater drainage networks, completing annual maintenance of the lifting stations for the water drainage system, station tanks, marine outlets, and non-return gates, as well as continuous monitoring.
The rainwater drainage system in Abu Dhabi City has been designed and implemented using the SCADA system, where the operation and monitoring of rainwater drainage stations ensure the drainage of water according to the annual rainfall quantities.
This ensures the preservation of the networks, aligning with the overall urban development and growth of Abu Dhabi. The municipality identifies locations with significant water accumulation from the previous rainfall through records kept from previous maintenance operations to ensure that any idenitified issues are followed up on properly. The municipality determines the necessary workforce and equipment, identifies the areas and assets expected to be affected during rainfall, and takes immediate action upon rainfall.
