Palestinian officials have praised the United Arab Emirates for its pivotal role in advocating for the Palestinian cause on the international stage.

Their efforts, deemed influential and vital, are seen as key in implementing the recent United Nations Security Council Resolution 2720, hailed as a significant triumph for UAE diplomacy.

Munir Al-Jaghoub, a Fatah Movement leader, commended the UAE’s effective actions at the Security Council, emphasising the necessity to build upon these endeavours in the forthcoming period to execute Resolution 2720.

Al-Jaghoub highlighted that diplomatic solutions are indispensable, underscoring Palestine’s commitment to fostering change through official international platforms, particularly the United Nations Security Council.

Speaking to Aletihad, the Fatah Movement leader underscored the impending period’s need for joint Arab and international community efforts, which aim to protect civilians, cease warfare, and initiate the execution of the recent United Nations Security Council resolution.

Presented by the UAE, this resolution advocates taking concrete steps to increase humanitarian aid urgently needed in Gaza. It also focuses on the protection of United Nations personnel and humanitarian workers on the ground.

Moreover, the resolution calls on the United Nations Secretary-General to appoint a Senior Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction. This appointee will oversee shipments to the Gaza Strip, ensuring their humanitarian nature, and establish a UN-led aid mechanism to facilitate and hasten assistance delivery.

The resolution also urges all conflict parties to cooperate with the coordinator, ensuring the fulfilment of their responsibilities without hindrance. This enhances the United Nations’ response capacity and secures comprehensive support from the Security Council.

Jamal Nazzal, the Fatah Movement’s spokesperson, acknowledged the UAE’s leadership in supporting the Palestinian cause during its tenure on the Security Council.

He highlighted the importance of joint diplomatic initiatives, primarily focused on civilian protection and promoting the Palestinian cause.

In a statement to Aletihad, Nazzal emphasised the need for collaborative efforts with the UAE and support for its peaceful crisis resolution endeavours, consistent since the war’s onset on October 7.

Palestinian diplomat Jihad Al-Harazin pointed out that the UAE played a pivoital role in the International Security Council, demonstrating a sincere commitment to the Palestinian cause.

In a statement to Aletihad, he praised the UAE’s denunciation of settler violence in the West Bank, a significant stance within the largest international crisis forum, the Security Council.

This, he noted, reflects the UAE’s prioritisation of the Palestinian issue, alongside its previous decision to facilitate humanitarian aid to Gaza.

Al-Harazin remarked that the condemnation of settlements and violence is a significant milestone in resolving the Palestinian issue.

Through its Security Council mission, the UAE has foregrounded this point, as evidenced in the powerful speech by Her Excellency Lana Nusseibeh, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs and Permanent Representative of the UAE to the United Nations. He called for unanimous support for the UAE’s mission and its call to halt settlements.
He further stated that the implementation of the recent Security Council resolution, allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza irrespective of a ceasefire, marks a major victory for UAE diplomacy.

It also represents a crucial step in prioritising civilian protection, a consistent focus of the UAE since the conflict’s beginning, Al-Harazin added.
