Dubai Police received more than 14,000 calls over a 12-hour period on New Year’s Eve, the authority said on Wednesday.


As many as 14,148 calls were received at the emergency hotline (999) and the call centre (901) for non-emergency cases between 6PM on December 31 and 6AM on January 1, the police said.


Colonel Muhammad Abdullah Al Muhairi, Director of the Command and Control Centre in the Dubai Police General Department of Operations, said the 999 hotline received 13,078 calls, while the call centre number 901 received 1,070 calls.


Al Muhairi commended the efforts of the staff for their swift and professional responses to all inquiries.


He also acknowledged the public's dedication to arriving at designated celebration areas in advance and familiarising themselves with instructions published across various media platforms.


Al Muhairi reminded the public that calls to the number 999 should only be made in emergencies.
