The Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre (ADSCC) has announced the establishment of an integrated hospital specialising in innovative and intricate treatments in all medical specialties, in addition to a research centre.
Situated in Khalifa City, the hospital boasts 85 beds, state-of-the-art operating rooms and an intensive care unit. The hospital employs over 500 medical staff members.
The hospital’s wide array of specialties and services include haematology, bone marrow transplantation, neurology, orthopaedics, cardiology, diabetes treatments, general surgery, ophthalmology, rheumatology, urology, gastrointestinal diseases and endoscopy, dermatology, plastic surgery, paediatrics, paediatric neurology, paediatric thoracic diseases, gynaecology and other subspecialties.
Dr. Yendry Ventura, CEO of ADSCC, stated: “ADSCC, a part of the Pure Health Group, was established in 2019 in alignment with the national agenda and the priorities set by our wise leadership.
“ADSCC has gained widespread recognition as a leading institution in the field of advanced medical research, all thanks to its excellent and world-class facilities. These include cutting-edge laboratories, a modern unit for photoimmunotherapy and apheresis, a stem cell collection unit, a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) laboratory and an integrated hospital. The consolidation of these facilities under one umbrella has significantly reduced the necessity for patients to seek treatment abroad, providing advanced life-saving treatments within the country. This includes services like bone marrow transplantation, revolutionary stem cell therapies and regenerative medicine.”
In addition to research, the Centre serves as a hub of knowledge exchange to help train the next generation of medical professionals and researchers in the fields of regenerative medicine and stem cell therapy, Dr. Ventura said.
Scientific Discoveries
According to Dr. Ventura, the Centre has made significant strides in the field of cellular immunotherapies for treating blood and lymphatic cancers and is currently working to enhance its regenerative medicine and stem cell treatments.
In addition, we recently launched the Signal app, empowering our doctors to prescribe medications safely, effectively, and in a personalised way for patients,” Dr. Ventura said. The app analyses medication regimens using patient-specific factors in order to eliminate potentially harmful drug interactions, setting a new standard of safety in the region.
Other major achievements include ADSCC’s first successful bone marrow transplant for a leukaemia patient, performed in July 2020, along with treating 400 patients using regenerative medical treatments in 2023, and securing six patents.
Dr. Fatima Al Kaabi, Executive Director of the Abu Dhabi Bone Marrow Transplant Programme at ADSCC, stated: “Thanks to the insightful vision of our wise leadership and their unwavering support, which have paved the way for significant achievements over the past years, we at ADSCC established the Abu Dhabi Bone Marrow Transplant Programme.”
Remarking on the Centre’s achievements, Dr. Al Kaabi explained that the programme is the first in the country to perform bone marrow transplants using the patient as a donor.
“Earlier this year, ADSCC received accreditation from the Abu Dhabi Department of Health, designating it as the first centre of excellence in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation,” Dr. Al Kaabi said.
